About Me
I was born in Seoul. As a biracial child I never felt completely at home in either cultures. But where I did feel at home was in the world of fantasy books. As a teen, I always had a book with me. I would carry around these large hardcover editions of the next Wheel of Time book and I would read them on the subway, the bus, at restaurants, during class (secretly, of course).
Now I live on a small homestead on the outskirts of Cape Town. I’ve been a graphic designer and a children’s author (different pen name, of course), I got married, we’re homeschooling three kids and we’re running a farm and a nursery business. Life got busy and I didn’t have time for reading fantasy books (I had more important things to do). And I was tired and the world seemed smaller (yes, I was a grumpy sod).
I am no longer young but not old either. I need reading glasses and I can’t stay up too late. But I started reading again in the evenings. Having these fantasy stories in my head made me see the world differently. There were more possibilities, hope, and the knowledge that dragons can be slain. The world got bigger again. At least, I’m shouting at the ducks less often.
So I started illustrating these stories for myself. I have a terrible memory and without illustrating them, I think I would lose them. Every evening, I read and every morning, before the kids wake and the farm work starts, I draw.
